Interview: How to get the domain you REALLY want

In early 2012, we launched our domain backordering service, which allows customers to check on thousands of valuable domains that are set to expire. The no-win, no-fee service, waits patiently until your preferred domain has expired and once available on the open market, secures it for you.

This service has been designed to make it easier for customers to register their perfect domain name. We understand that registering domains can be difficult with popular choices already taken; it’s often disappointing to find out your desired domain name has already been secured. With this service we have removed the inconvenience of regularly monitoring the domain you wish to purchase, giving you peace of mind that you won’t miss out.

But don’t take our word for it. We sat down with Sophie King, owner of www.crownandglory.co.uk to learn how the 123-reg backordering service has helped her business grow.

Crown and Glory specialises in handmade, trend led and bespoke hair accessories, all designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom. Crown and Glory started in 2011 and has grown from strength to strength, now boasting clients including high street brand Oasis, accessorising for Danillo Gabrielli’s SS13 collection at London Fashion Week and the business has recently launched a new range in collaboration with Rock and Roll Bride.

King’s story begins like many other entrepreneurs in the UK who have set up a business without securing their desired domain name. ‘The domain name that we really wanted was already owned by somebody but was unused and up for renewal in 12 months. We set up our business using a different name and then we used the 123-reg service to backorder this domain and secure it once it was available on the open market.

‘Getting the domain has been crucial to our business and the 123-reg service allowed us peace of mind, without having to constantly set reminders to check the availability of the domain in question. Securing this domain has changed our business. Before, we had to settle for a domain that was longer, not very catchy or easy to remember – something that we see as vital to a thriving website,’ King continued.

As with many other businesses, securing the domain name of choice can be highly lucrative to a business, as King explains. ‘Acquiring the domain has solidified our business as a trusted brand and has allowed us to continue steps to having a self-hosted e-commerce store. By way of results, we have seen our web traffic increase 25% and we have moved up the rankings on Google. Added to this, our sales have increased in the region of a quarter.’

‘I would recommend 123-reg’s service to anybody looking to backorder a domain, for whatever reason. It has been very easy and the backordering process allowed me to forget about checking to see if the domain had become available – being able to delegate this sometimes painstaking task is vital to any busy entrepreneur,’ King concluded.

Remember, we will not charge you up front for placing a domain backorder. Only if you are successful will you need to pay the relevant domain backorder fee. Simply head to our domain backorder service page to learn more.
