It’s summer and we have all escaped to foreign islands and luxurious hideaways and left technology behind as we attempt relax and unwind and let go of the stresses and strains of living in the future as we now all do.
Who am I kidding? You’ve taken your tablets, your smart phones, your laptops and all other manner of things that allow you (allow you, makes it sound like you have a choice doesn’t it?) to stay connected to ‘the grid’. Which is sad in some ways but good in one way, because it means you can visit some awesome websites that my team and I have found for you.
Who hasn’t tried to grow a beard? It is one of my favourite things to do every 3 years or so. ‘Hey, why have I never stuck with having a beard?’ I ask myself. 3 weeks later, I remember and shave it all off. This dude kept his beard (I think it’s to compensate for his lack of proper hair) and then decided to adorn it with decorations. He pimps his beard, if you will. In this video, you will see a gentleman try and beat the world record for sticking tooth picks into his beard. My favourite bit is the kids face just after the minute mark. A joy.

I miss John Peel. I never really appreciated him while he was here, probably a bit too young and a bit afeard of what stuff he played. It’s a shame, because radio is a darker more homogenised place without him. Want to have a sneaky peak at his records? Then go to this website. The time has come to re-evaluate the contribution to popular culture of diminutive pop star Beck. I was a big fan of Mellow Gold and of course ‘I’ve got 2 turntables and a microphone’ has become my personal mantra. However, I lost interest from Midnight Vultures on and haven’t paid him much attention since. However, this audio experimental version of a David Bowie song has made me realise that perhaps I have been missing out. The concept involves people sitting on blankets, revolving stages and all kinds of pomposity. I couldn’t get the interactive version to work on my computer (Windows Millennium anyone?) so I opted for the lighter one. Doesn’t matter. Goosebumps ahoy!
