Adding Microsoft 365 to an email client that only supports IMAP, POP3 and SMTP protocols
This article will help you sync your Microsoft 365 email account with an email client that doesn't support Microsoft Exchange protocols.
When syncing your Microsoft 365 email account with a client such as Outlook, you’ll be able to use the Microsoft Exchange protocol.
However, if you want to add your Microsoft Office 365 email to Gmail or Thunderbird, you won’t be able to use the Microsoft Exchange email protocol. Instead, you’ll need to use the IMAP or POP protocols displayed in the table below:
Server type | Server Address | Port | Requires SSL (TLS) |
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server: | outlook.office365.com | 993 | Yes |
Incoming Mail (POP) Server: | outlook.office365.com | 995 | Yes |
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: | smtp.office365.com | 465 (25 or 587 for SSL off) | Yes |
From there, you can add your details as you usually would. The Username for both the Incoming and Outgoing servers should be your complete email address: e.g. yourname@yourdomain.com
