Why am I receiving the message 'Domain already in use' when setting up my custom email address?
This article will explain why you’re receiving the message ‘Domain already in use’.
If you’re receiving the message ‘Domain already in use’ when setting up your custom address, there are two possible reasons for this, depending on which message you get.
If you’ve received the message shown above, this means that your chosen domain is being used for an existing mailbox. As such, you will need to delete any MX records that are present within your domain name’s DNS records.
If you’re not sure how to access your domain’s DNS records, please read the following article: How do I view the DNS records for my domain name?
If, however, you’re receiving the message titled ‘Are you sure it’s yours?’, this means that the previous owner of your domain has a mailbox attached to it which has not been deleted. In this case, you will need to contact our Support team, who can help you create a new mailbox.
Another possibility is that the user you want to create is already set up as an email forwarder. In this case, you will need to delete this forwarder first and then create the mailbox. For details on how to do this, please read the following article: Email Forwarding explained
