Self Diagnosis Alert – Forwarding Type

Thank you for using the 123 Reg Self Diagnosis Tool!

We have detected a possible issue with your web forwarding set up, as it appears to have been configured incorrectly.

If you wanted to forward ‘exampledomain.com’ to ‘anotherdomain.com/example.html’, you will need to select either framed web forwarding to a single page or non-framed web forwarding to a single page.

Conversely, if you wanted to forward ‘exampledomain.co.uk’ to ‘yetanotherdomain.biz’, you will need to select either framed or non-framed web forwarding.

To amend the type of web forwarding you have selected, please follow the instructions below:

Step 1 of 6

Start by logging in to your 123 Reg Control Panel.

Step 2 of 6

Next, select Manage All opposite Domains within the ‘All Products and Services’ section.

Step 3 of 6

You will now see a complete list of your purchased domain names. Select which one you wish to update from the provided list by clicking the checkbox next to it.

If you can’t find your domain in this list, you may be able to find it on the Domain Name Overview page within our legacy Control Panel. For more details on this, please read the following article: How do I access and manage my products?

Step 4 of 6

If you’re using our current Control Panel, click Forward in the bar that appears below. If you can’t see this option, click More instead and you will find it within the menu that appears.

If you’re using our legacy Control Panel, select Web forwarding within the Domain Basics section.

Step 5 of 6

If you’re using our current Control Panel, a pop-up window will appear where you will see several forwarding options: Permanent (301), Temporary (302) and Forward with Masking. Start by choosing which type of forward you want to use.

If you’re using our legacy Control Panel, you’ll be taken to a new page instead, which will show a list of your domains. Select Edit for the domain you wish to add a forwarder to and then click the Permanent forwarding (301 redirect) or Temporary forwarding (302 redirect) tab.

Tip: If the website address is long and unwieldy, then you may wish to use framed web forwarding, as this masks your website address and always keeps your domain in the browser bar. Non-framed web forwarding is more useful if you wish to forward your domain to another domain with a similar name (such as yourdomain.co.uk forwarding to yourdomain.com).

If, however, you are forwarding your domain to a page within a folder, rather than a domain or subdirectory, (for example: www.yourdomain.com/homepage.html) then you will need to use web forwarding to a single page. Once again, you can choose whether to use framed or non-framed.

If the redirection is permanent, use a 301 redirect. Alternatively, use a 302 redirection if you will be changing the destination frequently.

For more information about permanent and temporary forwarding, please read the following Support article: What is Web Forwarding?

Step 6 of 6

Once you’re done, click Continue or Confirm to save your changes.
