Updating your Dedicated Windows server IP address to your new IP details

To replace your current IP addresses with the new IP addresses that have been allocated to you the following has to be done:

• Adding your new IP’s to your network interface
• Adding IIS host headers to your web server
• Updating Mailenable to send emails
• Updating DNS records via Microsoft DNS

These steps are broken up as follows:

Adding your new IP’s to your network interface

• Step 1 of 11

  Click start, Control panel, Network Connections, Local Area Network.

• Step 2 of 11

  Select properties highlight Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and select Advanced.

• Step 3 of 11

  Under IP addresses Click Add and enter your new IP address and subnet mask.

• Step 4 of 11

  Repeat step three until all IP addresses provided have been added.

• Step 5 of 11

  Test your new addresses are working by pinging them from your remote computer.

• Step 6 of 11

  Once complete log out of your server then log back in using your new IP address.

• Step 7 of 11

  Repeat steps one and two to bring up the IP configuration again.

• Step 8 of 11

  Now you need to enter your new gateway, to determine this please use the chart below:

  Under Default gateways select your existing gateway and click edit, now enter your new gateway address and click add then click ok then ok again.

  Test your new addresses are working by pinging them from your remote computer.

• Step 11 of 11

  Once complete log out of your server then log back in using your new IP address.

Adding IIS host headers to your web server

If you use your server to host websites via IIS you will be required to add new host headers, to do this follow the steps below:

  Click Start, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

• Step 2 of 5

  In the left column expand the local computer group then Web Sites.

• Step 3 of 5

  Right click in the site you wish to modify and select properties then Advanced.

• Step 4 of 5

  For each existing host header you need to create duplicate with the new address, to do this click Add and select your new IP from the drop down, under TCP port enter 80 and finally for the Host Header value enter your website hostname and click ok, repeat this process for each host mapped to the website.

• Step 5 of 5

  Repeat steps three and four for each of your websites.

Updating Mailenable to send emails

If you use mailenable you will need to update your SMTP bindings which can be accomplished as follows:

  Open the mailenable administrator by clicking start, All Programs, Mailenable, Mailenable.

• Step 2 of 4

  In the left column expand servers, system, connectors, now right click on SMTP and select properties.

• Step 3 of 4

  Select the inbound tab and under Inbound IP binding tick your new addresses and click ok.

• Step 4 of 4

  Restart the SMTP service by expanding the system group and selecting services, right click on SMTP then click stop once stopped click start.

Updating DNS records via Microsoft DNS

If you use Microsoft DNS you can update your records by following the steps below, if you use a third party DNS service please consult the vendors documentation or contact your DNS provider for instructions.

  Click Start, Administrative Tools, DNS Manager.

• Step 2 of 6

  In the left column expand your server DS* then Forward Lookup Zones, this will list all your available zones.

• Step 3 of 6

  Click the zone you wish to modify.

• Step 4 of 6

  In the right hand column double click on the Host(A) record you wish to modify, in the dialog box enter your new IP address then click ok.

• Step 5 of 6

  Repeat step three until all records have been updated.

• Step 6 of 6

  Repeat steps three to five until all zones have been updated.
