Generate a CSR: IIS 7
To generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR), please do the following:

Start by selecting your Start menu and then search for Administrative Tools.
From here, click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
Click the server name you want to generate the CSR for via the Connections panel.
From the centre menu, double-click Server Certificates within the Security section.
Select the Actions menu on the right and then click Create Certificate Request.
This will open the Request Certificate wizard. From here, enter the following information into the Distinguished Name Properties window:
- Common Name – this should be the Fully qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or the web address for which you plan to use your SSL Certificate.
- Organisation
- Organisation Unit – used to differentiate between different departments within your business
- City/Locality
- State/Province
- Country
Once you’ve entered this information, click Next.
On the next page, enter the following values into the provided fields:
- Cryptographic service provider – set this to Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider
- Bit length – set this to 2048 or higher
Once you’ve entered this information, click Next.
From there, enter a file name and location to save your CSR to and then click Finish. You will need this CSR to enrol for your SSL Certificate.
Your CSR will now be saved to the location you selected, in the file you named. When you come to request a certificate, you will need this information, so please make a note of it.
