How do I request my SSL certificate?

This article will explain how you can request your SSL certificate.

Once you’ve purchased an SSL certificate, you’ll need to request the certificate for the domain name that you wish to secure. How you perform this depends on your current setup:

Please note: this article only applies to SSL certificates purchased after December 2021.

  1. If you’re using our Website Builder, Online Shop or WordPress Hosting plans, your SSL certificate will be automatically installed for you and you won’t need to perform any further actions.
  2. If you haven’t generated a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and your website is the primary domain on a 123 Reg hosting package such as Linux (cPanel) or Windows (Plesk), then please follow the ‘Using the SSL wizard’ section outlined below.
  3. If you haven’t generated a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and your website is the secondary domain on a 123 Reg hosting package OR is hosted with another company, then please follow the ‘Using the SSL wizard’ section outlined below.
  4. If you’ve already generated a CSR and only need to request your SSL certificate, then please follow the ‘Using the SSL wizard (Input a CSR)’ section outlined below.

Using the SSL wizard

Step 1 of 9

Start by logging in to your 123 Reg Control Panel.

Step 2 of 9

From there, select SSL Certificates within the ‘Manage active products’ section and then select Manage opposite Manage SSL Certificates.

Step 3 of 9

This will take you to the SSL overview page, where you will see all your purchased SSL certificates. Simply click Manage opposite the certificate you wish to set up.

Step 4 of 9

You will now be taken to your SSL Certificate dashboard, which features a different interface and URL to our main site.

From here, select the option Choose a Domain and then enter your domain name into the provided field. Once done, click Continue.

Step 5 of 9

Your Private Key and CSR for your SSL certificate will now appear on-screen. If you haven’t already generated a CSR or Private Key (see point 3 above), you’ll need to save a copy of both values by selecting Save File for both options.

You won’t be able to view these values after you leave the page, so make sure you save them in a secure location that’s easy to find.

Step 6 of 9

Next, click Continue.

Step 7 of 9

This will take you to the Prove Domain Control page, where you can select which email addresses you can use to verify that you control the domain.

If you know what you need, select the relevant option from the list. Otherwise, you can leave everything selected and then click Continue.

Step 8 of 9

On the next page, you’ll need to read and agree to the Subscriber Agreement of our Certificate Issuer, Starfield Technologies. From there, click Continue to proceed.

Step 9 of 9

You’ll now be taken to a confirmation page where you can see the complete details of your certificate.

Next, you’ll need to verify your request.
