This article will explain how you can verify that you control the domain you’re requesting your SSL certificate for.
Once you’ve requested your SSL certificate, you’ll need to verify that you control the domain you’re requesting the certificate for. The way you can do this depends on whether your SSL certificate and domain name are in the same 123 Reg account.
Please note: this article only applies to SSL certificates purchased after December 2021.
If your SSL certificate and domain name are in the same 123 Reg account, then we will verify your request for you. As soon as you receive an email from us stating that your SSL certificate is available, you can begin downloading it.
If your SSL certificate and domain name are NOT in the same 123 Reg account, then you will be sent a verification email to the following addresses:
- admin@yourdomain.com
- administrator@yourdomain.com
- hostmaster@yourdomain.com
- postmaster@yourdomain.com
- webmaster@yourdomain.com
This approval email will be sent to these listed addresses every 24 hours (with ‘yourdomain.com’ representing the domain name that you selected earlier), which will feature a verification link that you must click to confirm that you control the domain.
This will take you to your SSL certificate, where you can Approve your CSR request.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll receive another email confirming that your SSL certificate has been issued, which means you can begin downloading your certificate.
If you cannot set up or access any of these email addresses, you can verify your domain ownership via HTML or DNS.
In addition to this, if you’ve registered an Extended SSL certificate, you’ll need to provide additional information, such as your address, business name and telephone number, so that you can prove you are eligible to receive this type of certificate.
