This article will show you how to connect a domain name to your website.
So, you’re finally happy with your website and ready to publish it for the world to see. Before you can do this though, you’ll need to link your domain name to it. For details on how to do this, please follow the steps outlined below.
Please note: this article only applies to Version 9 of our Website Builder. If you’re not sure which version you have, you can find out by reading this article.
Start by logging in to Website Builder.
From there, select Settings in the right-hand menu.
Select Manage opposite the domain name within the My Domain section.
A new pop-up window will now appear, asking you to choose how you want to publish your website. You’ll now need to choose one of the following options:
- On a domain I already own
- Get a new domain
- Free URL
Once you’ve made your choice, click Continue to proceed.
If you’ve chosen Free URL, you won’t need to do anything else. If, however, you’ve chosen any other option, please select the appropriate heading below to see what you need to do next:
On a domain I already own
If the domain you wish to use is in your 123 Reg account, select the option Use a domain in my account. On the next slide, select your ideal domain and click Continue. From there, select Save & Publish to complete the process.
If, however, you want to use a domain name that you’ve registered with a third-party provider, you’ll need to do the following:
Enter your domain name into the provided field.
You’ll then be given a list of DNS records. Sign into your third-party account and change your DNS records to match the ones you’ve been provided with.
Once you’ve done this, click I’m done, continue setup.
On the next slide, click Save & Publish to complete the process.
Get a new domain
Enter the domain name that you wish to purchase into the provided field. After a few moments, you’ll be informed whether your domain is available. If it is, select Buy and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
