How do I set cookie, privacy and tracking preferences for my website?
This article will show you how to set up tracking and privacy preferences in Website Builder.
In addition to being a delicious treat, cookies are an excellent way of learning more about your website’s visitors. Even if you’re a complete novice when it comes to the online world, it’s important to know and understand exactly how this valuable tool works.
What is an internet cookie?
Cookies are small pieces of data that include details that can be used to recognise your computer, such as your username and password as well as your name, email address and telephone number (provided you’ve entered this information). They are generated by web servers when you visit a website and are stored on your computer.
So, what are they used for? Well, they essentially allow you to improve your visitors’ web experience. For example, you could use cookies to remember what products they’ve added to their basket, to create targeted ads that are relevant to them or to remember their personal information for future use, so that they don’t need to re-enter their details every time they visit your site.
Our Website Builder tool will automatically collect anonymous site visit information by default. This does not contain any personal information and can only be used to understand how quickly your website loads and how many people visit it.
Although our Website Builder tool can be used to collect additional traffic and customer data, some countries have privacy laws in place that require you to state how you collect and process data collected from your visitors. This can be done by clarifying this in your cookies banner and by adding a privacy policy to your website. For details on how to do this, simply choose your preferred option from the list below:
Please note: this article only applies to Version 9 of our Website Builder. If you’re not sure which version you have, you can find out by reading this article.
