This article will help you to plan your website’s layout.
When laying out your website, it’s important to have a plan. Each page should have a singular purpose and you should design your pages to facilitate that purpose.
The most important pages that your website should feature are as follows:
Home
This page should immediately explain who you are and what you do. Ideally, this information should be visible straight away (i.e. above the fold), so that your visitors don’t have to scroll down the page to find out any crucial details.
You can also elaborate further on your services by using an eye-catching buttons ‘call-to-action’ that direct visitors to other pages on your website – i.e. a button that states ‘Find out more’.
About
This page should go into more details about you and your business, including your services, history, awards, and more. For example, if you run a plumbing business, you could list the different types of jobs you can perform, the qualifications you’ve earned as well as any customer testimonials. This will help you to build a relationship with your visitors and allow them to further understand what exactly you do.
Contact
This page should be as simple and self-explanatory as possible so that any potential customers know exactly how to get in touch with you. There are several different ways you can do this – you could present your email address and phone number so that visitor can contact you straight away, or you could have visitors complete a contact form instead so that they can go into more detail about the nature of their enquiry. If you have multiple locations, be sure to list the details for each branch.
Of course, all of this depends on the main goal of your website. If your sole aim is to get people to contact you, then you may just want a one-page website, with your contact details front and centre.
Just remember, your page should have one purpose; how easy is it to do that purpose?
